Heel pain in Piedmont

Heel pain is all too common. It can make even standing uncomfortable, not to mention walking, running, or engaging in athletic activities. At Premier Foot & Ankle Center, LLC, we are dedicated to identifying the source of your heel pain, treating it, and helping you to avoid recurrences.

Plantar fasciitis is one of the two major causes of pain in your heel area. The thick tissue that connects your heel bone to your toes becomes stretched, inflamed, and may suffer small tears. The other major cause is the development of heel spurs; calcium deposits that develop on the underside of your foot and cause bone-like protrusions. Both of these conditions, which may appear independently or together, are responsible not just for your initial discomfort, but can also lead to other complications. For example, you may start walking in a manner to avoid putting pressure on your heel. This awkward positioning and weight distribution could result in injuries to other parts of your feet. Our podiatry office in Piedmont begins by conducting a complete examination and taking x-rays. In order to effect relief, it will be necessary to address the circumstances that led to the problem in the first place. Orthotics, shoe inserts, are typically very helpful. They offer much needed cushioning to the heel. In addition, you should switch to footwear that has excellent arch support and thicker soles. For many people, this will be all that is necessary. However, our podiatry office in Piedmont may recommend other treatments if the above is not producing the necessary results. Possibilities include anti-inflammatory medication, steroid injections, and even surgery in more severe instances.

Don't wait to have your heel pain dealt with. Our podiatry office in Piedmont has the specialized care you require. Contact our office right away and let us schedule you for a visit to be examined.
